Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat have a combined 2.5 billion users. That’s 46,000 times the amount of people that fit in Yankee Stadium, and 657 times the amount of people who live in the United States. In the social media-crazed world we live in, the next best thing is always just around the corner. It has to be to keep up with all 2.5 billion users! What new social media platform will be the next to catch fire? Could it be Periscope?
What exactly is Periscope?
The live streaming video app, which launched March 26th, 2015, describes itself as the “closest thing to teleportation”. Sounds good enough to keep us interested! Its basic premise is to allow users to broadcast to their followers from any mobile device.
How does it work?
Simply sign in on your iOS or Android device, create a profile and start watching or sending broadcasts. You can even connect your twitter account to your Periscope to maximize your visibility and build a follower base. Since you run your own station, you have complete control over privacy, which means you can choose to make broadcasts private or public. You can even use Periscope to have video conversations. Videos stay live for 24 hours, and then are automatically deleted from the app.
Why is it going to be the next big thing?
Twitter bought periscope in February 2015, that’s right, before it even launched. If that isn’t a sure sign of an app that is about to blow up, we’re not sure what is. Periscope has also tapped into an interesting outlet for connecting businesses with potential clients. After all, clients and customers love to see the human side of a company. Q&A sessions, How-To videos and other relevant broadcasts are all genius ways to grow a company’s client base.
If you haven’t downloaded Periscope yet, check it out. When properly utilized, as the app continues to grow, your company will continue to grow as well.
